momentum

Concept:

An animated logo that represents the movement that is called momentum: Moving in a constant direction, as in performing dance combinations across the floor, creates momentum. Momentum is a mass in motion. The amount of momentum depends on the amount of mass moving and how fast that mass is moving. Momentum is very representative in modern dancing.

The logo is supposed to visualise and perform momentum so that you can sense that kind of movement as you see the way, the logo is animated.

thoughts

I have very mixed feelings with this piece. I am not very happy with the outcome of the graphics in the logo. I think I could have made it look better and more fitting to the style. As you can see on the sketches, it was quite difficult for me, to make something that feels right.

I wish I had focused more on creating a logo that actually expresses the motion momentum, without directly visualising it, with a dancing body because that actually doesn’t live up to the purpose of the project. Maybe it would have been more challenging to visualise and sense the animation through motion graphics and see where that would have l taken me.

So my passion and interest for character animation kinda took the lead and I ended up creating a dancing body as the logo. I am really fascinated by anatomy and the way bodies move through dancing. I think you can express so much with just your body, and that’s really interesting to me. So I just HAD to try creating something relating to that. As I was pressed for time when creating this piece, I chose to utilise references to create the frame by frame character, when drawing the movements. I hope to be able to work more freely in the future, regarding frame by frame and character animation. I want to work hard to get better. When I have a vision in my head, I just have to create it and make it alive. Wether it being the easy or hard way. I really wanted to show what I had in mind with this, and I couldn’t have done it any other way with the amount of time I was given, before the deadline.

I really want to get better at character animation and I hope that I can develop that skill in the near future. I really want to learn more about animating anatomy without having to trace anything. So you can say that this was my way of practising it to make my animation as smooth as possible. However is it only when the figure is dancing, that I traced the movements, when I drew the frames. It thee body stops dancing, I used tools in After Effects, to animate the rest.
