Concept:
We all know Barbie from our childhood. She has become one of the biggest icons in our society. Barbie pushing society ideals has always been a hugely discussed subject. She has the “perfect” life. She is pretty much succesful on pretty much all parameters and has almost every conceivable career title. She is a model, actress, artist, singer, doctor, hair dresser, makeup artist and much more. She has the “perfect” body and the “perfect” relationship with her partner Ken.
But what if Barbie was the complete opposite of what we know of? What would Barbie’s life look like, if her life was more realistic and completely unfiltered?

This school project required me to create a concept that involved the idea about sending letters. From who or what and the story behind was left to my own creativity. I knew from the get-go what I wanted to make. It just popped into my head and I had to make something about Barbie. Barbie was a big part of my childhood. Now as a “grown-up” the history of Doll’s history is a big interest of mine. I also chose Barbie as the sender because of my own personal experience of how I have been affected by the standards of beauty. Therefore it was interesting for me, to shape Barbie in a more rebellious matter and not like the usual ideal character that we know of.
